# Key concepts

> The words Noodle uses — Noo, journals, check-ins, prompts, and more.

These terms appear across the app. Using them consistently makes the rest of the docs easier to follow.

| Term | Meaning |
| ------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Noodle** | The product — your private journal and companion app. |
| **Noo** | The AI companion you chat and (on Noodle+) talk with. |
| **Journal** | Your writing space. Entries live inside **Journals** (named containers). |
| **Entry** | A single journal write-up. |
| **Chat** | A conversation thread with Noo. |
| **Check-in** | A quick mood log (Rough → Great), with optional metrics and tags. |
| **Prompt** | A writing starter from Noodle or the community. |
| **Reflection** | A short AI note on a line or passage in an entry. |
| **Insights** | Gentle pattern summaries — writing, mood, themes — without scores or streaks. |
| **Calendar** | A time-based view of your activity. |
| **Personality** | How Noo sounds (for example Friendly or Candid). |
| **Therapeutic approach** | The modality that shapes Noo's style (for example CBT-informed, ACT, mindfulness). |
| **Intention** | What you said brings you to Noodle (set in onboarding; editable later). |
| **Tags** | Labels you attach to check-ins or entries. |
| **Noodle+** | The paid plan for unlimited chat, history, and voice. |

## Mood scale

Check-ins use five labels:

**Rough → Low → Okay → Good → Great**

Optional metrics can include Energy, Pain, Sleep, Stress, Focus, Anxiety, Motivation, Social, and Appetite. You control which metrics appear in **Settings**.
