# What Noodle is and isn't

> Noodle is a companion, not therapy — and how we think about safety.

Noodle is built to listen, reflect, and help you untangle everyday thoughts. It is not a substitute for professional care.

## Noodle is

* A **private journal** for writing without streaks or scores
* A **gentle AI companion (Noo)** for talking things through
* A place to **check in** on mood and optional metrics
* A way to notice **patterns** over time through insights

## Noodle is not

* Therapy, counseling, or medical care
* A clinician, crisis line, or emergency service
* A diagnostic tool
* A productivity tracker with streaks, ranks, or leaderboards

<Warning>
  If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line. Start with [Crisis & getting real help](/help/crisis).
</Warning>

## How Noo responds when things feel heavy

Noo is designed to stay supportive and can point you toward crisis resources when conversations suggest you may need real-world help. That is not a clinical assessment — it is a safety-oriented response.

## When to use something else

Consider a licensed therapist, doctor, or crisis service if you need diagnosis, treatment, medication advice, or urgent support. Noodle can sit alongside care; it does not replace it.
